If you want a last trip on Stadt Luzern on Lake Lucerne, you’ll have to get your skates on. On Sunday 21st October she makes her last trip before being withdrawn for a major rebuild which is likely to take two years and cost an estimated 12.5 million Swiss francs.

Every day up to and including 21st October she is scheduled to take the 11.12 from Lucerne to Fluelen due back 16.47.

Unlike paddle steamers, paddle steamer captains cannot be rebuilt so 21st October will be Captain Kuno Stein’s last day in command of Stadt Luzern as he will have retired by the time that the work is completed. Captain Stein joined the Lucerne fleet in 1974 as a Kontrolleur/Matrose, has sailed as a paddle steamer captain since 1990 and been in command of Lucerne’s flagship Stadt Luzern for the last decade.
