Leaving Dry Dock

Supporting the preservation and operation of paddle steamers Waverley and Kingswear Castle

Drydock sluice gates opened moments before, bottom of dock just covered.
Flooding of dock viewed from the aft end.
The water level rises, the new paint scheme completed below the water line is visible. This consists of one primer coat, two anticorrosive coats, one tie coat and one top antifouling coat.
The milestone event in the rebuild – Waverley meets her natural element once more.
The dock is now fully flooded and the caisson is towed clear. Tugs Hector Read and Eta are standing by for the short tow across the River Yare.
Waverley exits from drydock, she is winched out by the capstans on either side of the dock entrance.
Stern line now attached, care must be taken as Waverley only draws three feet.
Closer view of her entry into the river, note the draught marks.
Alternative view, note the new monkey belting fitted around the stern.
