Editorial – Welcome to the very first edition of our new journal. It is the aim of our editorial team to keep all members fully informed of happenings in the paddler world and to publish articles by members on any paddler topics. Let this paper, right from the beginning, be our combined effort, produced for the good of the PSPS.

Skipper swop for Cosens – Following the retirement of Cosens’ Senior Master, Capt. Phillip St. Barbe Rawle, a number of changes in command are envisaged. Taking his place on board PS Embassy will be Capt. E S Haines, previously in command of the Monarch. The Consul will be commanded by he former Chief Officer, Capt. Iliffe, whilst her former master Capt. H Defrates will take over the Monarch. The retirement of Capt. Rawle after 34 years service was marked by a presentation of a clock subscribed to by the crews and pier staff of the Bournemouth steamers.

White Funnel news – Campbell “take over” complete – after considerable negotiations financial arrangements have been made between P & A Campbell Ltd and Nott Industries Ltd, the parent company of Townsend Ferries. Meanwhile, at Penarth work has progressed on both Glen Usk and Cardiff Queen. No visible signs of active maintenance on Glen Gower or Bristol Queen are apparent.

Torbay steamers overcome opposition – The new owners of the Red Funnel paddler Princess Elizabeth have overcome opposition to the running of the vessel from Torquay, and have also joined the Society. The cruise programme will cover morning, afternoon and whole day excursions to Brixham, Exmouth, Lyme Regis, Fowey, Dartmouth, Salcome and Weymouth. Fares are being kept to a most reasonable level, 15/- (75p) for an all day cruise, 7/6 (37½p) for a half day.
