Supporting the preservation and operation of paddle steamers Waverley and Kingswear Castle

Engineer uses piano wire under tension to check alignment of main bearings prior to work commencing on bulkhead replacement between engine room and boiler room. The crankshaft frames are connected to this bulkhead and the measurements are made to check the current alignment and to ensure it is maintained within tolerance when the new bulkhead is constructed and the frames are fastened to it.
Starboard fuel oil tank has now been removed and specialists have erected a tented area for removal of some minor areas of asbestos insulation located on the deckhead above the tanks.
