As most of us are sat at home for Easter, I thought I would share some memories and photographs of Easter 40 years ago. I am scanning transparencies and happen to be working my way through 1980 at the moment.

Easter 1980 was also in April, with Easter Day being April 6th. On Saturday 5th I went on Waverley from Glasgow to Tighnabruaich. It was a fine sunny day and the sea was glassy calm – truly unforgettable. The photograph above shows Waverley preparing to leave Stobcross Quay, while below she rests at Tighnabruaich.

The view looking down from up the hill is no longer possible (I have tried!) because the trees have grown.

I visited Brodick on Easter Monday, on the ferry from Ardrossan, but Waverley called. The heading photograph shows her approaching Brodick. Note there is smoke coming from both funnels as she still had her original boiler then. Below she is standing off in the bay to allow Caledonia to call.
