Civic Reception to Mark 50th Anniversary of Scottish Branch

On Thursday 1st August 2019 the PSPS Scottish Branch were honoured at a Civic Reception in Glasgow City Chambers hosted by The Right Honourable The Lord Provost Councillor Eva Bolander. Over seventy branch members and guests attended, the Lord Provost welcomed them and praised the work of the society, and wished us all the best in raising the funds required to allow Waverley to sail again.
In reply to the Lord Provost Scottish Branch Honorary President Douglas McGowan MBE, who founded the Scottish Branch in 1969, gave a brief history of the branch, highlighting the occasion in 1974 when he bought the Waverley from John Whittle of Caledonian MacBrayne for £1. It was good to see John Whittle attending the event.
After the formal part of the evening members enjoyed refreshments and a finger buffet in the beautiful surroundings of the City Chambers.
