Supporting the preservation and operation of paddle steamers Waverley and Kingswear Castle

5th September 1914: Monarch and Majestic

After the outbreak of war early in August 1914, the Government closed the Needles Channel, Spithead and Portland Harbour to shipping movements which restricted where Cosens could sail their paddle steamers. Avoiding these areas on Saturday 5th Sept 1914 they rostered Monarch and Majestic for a day trip and afternoon cruise from Bournemouth to Weymouth where they could get a good view of warships preparing for battle anchored in the roadstead in Weymouth |Bay: 5th September 1914: Monarch & Majestic – Kingswear Castle
