Kingswear Castle was joined this week at Dartmouth by another veteran historic ship – Nordstjernen – which was on a cruise of the South of England and Wales targeted at the German market. The trip started in Bremerhaven on 2nd September with calls at Portsmouth, Falmouth, the Scilly Islands, Fishguard, Avonmouth, Lundy, Penzance, Dartmouth and Cowes and returns to Bremerhaven on 15th September.

Nordstjernen was built in 1956 for the Hurtigruten service along the Norwegian coast between Bergen and Kirkenes on which she ran until 2012. She was sold to Vestland Rederei and given a major rebuild with a view to cruising in the Artic. Since 2015 she was chartered back to her original owners for summer cruises to Svalbad until 2025 when an issue arose with a requirement for her to carry covered lifeboats which were out of character with the original ship. Since then she has undertaken summer cruises in areas where her open lifeboats are still permitted.

From 15th – 23rd September she is rostered for a cruise from Bremerhaven to the Channel Islands.

From 23rd – 25th September there is a short cruise from Bremerhaven through the Kiel Canal to Warmemunde
