Society’s First Online Talk Announced

The Society is delighted to announce the details for our first ever online live presentation which will take place on Friday 12th February at 7:30pm GMT/UTC.

The speaker will be Paul Semple, General Manager of Waverley Excursions. Paul has titled his presentation “Waverley – Achieving 2020 and Beyond”, during which he will share the fascinating untold story of Waverley’s return to service in 2020. Paul will cover the boiler refit, sharing previously unpublished images of the work undertaken and will discuss the additional challenge of operating with Covid restrictions.

The presentation will also outline the winter refit and maintenance work currently taking place on Waverley, and the challenges ahead if Waverley is to operate again this summer. An update will be given on the current Covid-19 Relief Appeal and the total amount donated so far.

Following the presentation there will be an opportunity to put questions directly to Paul.

The presentation will be made available by means of a live stream on the PSPS Scottish Branch YouTube channel here. There is no sign in or password required.

The channel can also be easily found by searching online for “PSPS Scottish Branch YouTube”. You may wish to visit our YouTube channel in the meantime and enjoy some of the many videos available, including the most recently added videos which show footage of Waverley’s boiler refit.

Unlike a Zoom presentation where the audience can speak directly to the presenter, this live presentation on YouTube allows communication one way. Following his talk, the presentation will continue with Paul holding a Question and Answer session which should provide some further insight into what it takes to maintain and operate the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer. Questions can be emailed directly to Paul using a special email address which will be announced towards the end of the talk.

We hope that many members and a wider audience will enjoy this opportunity to hear directly from Waverley’s senior management. Please pass this information on to others who may be interested in watching the Society’s first online presentation.
