Waverley for Summer Cruising
Waverley’s main summer season got underway on Friday 22nd June with a Glasgow to Rothesay sailing. She very quickly settled in to her weekly routine although Sunday sailings see a variety of timetables. Over the past few weeks Waverley has operated in excellent conditions with many warm sunny days with clear blue skies – long may it continue!
Sunday 24th June saw the only Glasgow to Sanda Isles return sailing of the season and this proved popular once again, especially given the weather conditions. It was noted that some enthusiasts were sailing one way to Campbeltown on Waverley and then taking the Calmac ferry Isle of Arran back to Ardrossan.
For the first few Mondays of the summer season the ship is off-service which allows some time for maintenance. However, from Monday 16th July she will be operating seven days a week.
On Sunday 1st July Waverley made her first trip of the season round Ailsa Craig (otherwise known as Paddy’s Milestone). She will offer her regular Monday sailing round the Craig from Glasgow, Largs, Ayr and Girvan for four consecutive weeks from 30th July.
Tarbert and Loch Fyne remain the destination on a Wednesday throughout July and August. From 1st August this cruise will start from Ayr. In fact the Ayr to Tarbert and Loch Fyne sailing is one of the original timetables from Waverley’s first year in preservation in 1975.
The Scottish branch fundraising evening cruise of Waverley was highly successful with 719 passengers aboard on Thursday 5th July. This year the itinerary was unique with the cruise starting at Blairmore.
Waverley’s regular Thursday sailing is to Brodick with a cruise round Holy Isle. However, the first few Thursday sailings in the season tend to start at Largs rather than Greenock. From Thursday 26th July she will operate from Greenock to Arran.
For anyone who is planning a trip on Waverley this season please consider purchasing a Grand Draw Ticket for your chance to win £1000 cash while helping to support Waverley. The Waverley Grand Draw 2018 is being organised by the Scottish Branch and tickets are on sale aboard Waverley from a PSPS volunteer or from the Souvenir Shop. All proceeds from the Draw will go direct to Waverley.
