Kingswear Castle’s Return to Service Delayed

Further to our earlier report, the newly cast low pressure cylinder for Kingswear Castle’s engine was found on examination to have defects in the casting. Due to the lengthy lead time for casting another, it was decided to repair the existing cylinder in order to return the steamer to service as soon as possible for the 2017 season.

Work is now in progress to rebuild the engine with the repaired cylinder but this is taking longer than expected and consequently DSRRB have announced that the winter refit of Kingswear Castle has been extended and her service will not start until approximately week commencing 19 June.

The picture shows the repaired low pressure cylinder being loaded back on to the vessel at the covered slipway at Old Mill Creek.
