This page is intended to help those responsible for creating and managing content on the PSPS website.
The PSPS website is built using the WordPress Content Management System (CMS) which makes it (relatively) easy for anyone to create and update content. According to Wikipedia “WordPress is used by 41.4% of the top 10 million websites as of May 2021” so having some knowledge of WordPress will undoubtedly impress your friends on-board our paddle steamers or in the pub!
Content is typically words and pictures but also extends to events, website links indeed anything that a website visitor can see on this website. Inevitably though if you are new to using a CMS-based website you will find some things that are incredibly easy to understand but other things that make absolutely no sense at all or – infuriatingly – behaving differently from what you expect.
Help is at hand. Your first port of call is the list of Help and Guidance topics shown to the right (or below if you viewing this on a small screen, which, unless you a masochist, is not recommended for working on this site). Remember that you can open the Help and Guidance pages alongside your main browser tab by right-clicking with your mouse on the hyperlink and choosing either “Open link in new tab” or “Open link in new window”.
Struggling is Natural, Frustration is Not!
Struggling on manfully – or womanfully – and making mistakes whilst trying to grasp something new is natural and indeed is often a good way to learn. However when struggling turns to frustration it becomes counter-productive. Don’t be frustrated and take up offers of help.
