The PSPS Council of Management met on Saturday 9 March in London. Thirteen trustees were able to be present, with two apologising.
Council Members
Paul Semple had stood down as National Chairman on becoming an employee of Waverley Excursions Limited, so the meeting was chaired by Vice-Chairman, Gordon Wilson. It was agreed to appoint Peter Morley as interim Chairman. It was noted that Chris Larkin is now the London Branch representative on the Council. His predecessor, David Green, was co-opted to the Council in his capacity as Archivist.
Management of the Society
The updated risk register was reviewed and it was agreed that the use of social media by the Society needs to be considered as part of risks arising from publications. It was agreed to appoint a new Independent Examiner for the accounts. The Annual Financial Statements and Report for 2018 were approved. The safeguarding (of children and vulnerable adults) policy was approved.
Development Plan
Progress was noted, particularly working with other organisations. Good progress was reported with the Society’s Diamond Jubilee publication and with a DVD. Three Diamond Jubilee charters of Waverley are planned.
Ships
Kingswear Castle:: The consultations on new MCA proposals that could affect the operation of Kingswear Castle were noted.
Waverley: Management changes at Waverley Excursions were noted. It was agreed to launch an appeal towards the cost of a new boiler control system for Waverley.
Maid of the Loch: Progress on work to take advantage of funding from the Scottish Government was noted. It was agreed to consult the Wessex and Dart branch about funding the PSPS grant from the Dyer Bequest.
Branches
Council accepted the branch rule changes adopted by the London branch.
Future Meetings
Council will meet on 22 June in Glasgow and on 23 November in London. The Annual General Meeting will be 26 October in Southampton.
